Research Fellow at IRD, sociologist and anthropologist, Fanny Chabrol is based at the Population and Development Centre (Ceped), where she leads the “Health Inequalities: Vulnerabilities and Emancipation” research programme. Her research focuses on healthcare access policies and health system reform across the African continent, with a particular focus on hospital renovation and restructuring.
Her PhD research examined policies governing access to antiretroviral treatment in Botswana. She subsequently worked on the hepatitis B and C epidemic in Cameroon, the management of drug-resistant tuberculosis in Tanzania, and China’s health cooperation and construction policies in Africa. Her current research continues to focus on hospitals as infrastructures for development and global health, while seeking to address planetary health challenges at the intersection of social, economic and political crises and climate change.
In 2023, she co-authored, with Jean-Paul Gaudillière, “Introduction à la santé globale”, published by La Découverte in the Repères series.
She served on the Social Sciences and Public Health Sector Committee of ANRS from 2018 to 2025 and is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Secretary General of Sidaction.
