Professor Delfraissy was, from 2005 to the end of 2016, Director of the ANRS (the National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis). Between 2008 and 2017, he was Director of the Institute of Immunology, Inflammation, Infectiology and Microbiology at Inserm-AVIESAN. He is the president of the local committee for biomedical and public health research at the Bicêtre Paris-Sud hospital (AP-HP). He is Professor Emeritus at the University of GH Paris-Sud.

Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at CHU Paris-Sud (AP-HP) (1996-2013), Professor Delfraissy has a long and extensive experience in clinical immunology, clinical virology and public health. He has directed several ANRS research programs and therapeutic trials and published more than 450 articles in the field of immunology, internal medicine, and HIV infection. He has organized numerous international scientific congresses and has chaired several international scientific councils on HIV/AIDS. Professor Delfraissy has long been involved in operational research issues in resource-limited countries. He was responsible in Cambodia for the ESTHER Programme and clinical research of the ANRS “South East Asia” site. He co-chaired the IAS/ANRS scientific conference on HIV Science in July 2017 in Paris.

In July 2014, he set up and coordinated research on Ebola through the multidisciplinary network Inserm-Aviesan. The same year, he was appointed by the Prime Minister as inter-ministerial coordinator of all international and national operations in response to the Ebola epidemic.

He was the first president of Sidaction’s Scientific Council and is a member of the Board of Directors.

He is a member of the WHO Scientific and Technical Advisory Council (STAC) on HIV, hepatitis, Ebola and Zika and is a member of the UNAIDS Scientific Board.

He was appointed Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour in 2010.

Since January 4th, 2017, he has been President of the National Consultative Ethics Committee for Life Sciences and Health.

Since March 11, 2020, he has been President of the Covid-19 Scientific Council.
